Begum Akhtar

Begum Akhtar was conceived in Bada Darwaza, Town Bhadarsa, Bharatkund, Faizabad District, Uttar Pradesh. Her dad, Asghar Hussain, a youthful legal advisor who experienced passionate feelings for her mom Mushtari and made her his second wife, accordingly repudiated her and his twin girls Zohra and Bibbi (Akhtar).

Akhtari Bai Faizabadi, otherwise called Begum Akhtar (7 October 1914 – 30 October 1974), was a remarkable Indian artist of Ghazal, and Dadra, and Thumri (types of Hindustani traditional music).

She got the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for vocal music, and was recompensed Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan (after death) by Govt. of India.

Begum Akhtar, a name that will be with us the whole life. Begum Akhtar is remembered as the ghazal queen. Her voice was a pure classical mixture of harshness along the sadness and smoother feeling. She's my favorite female artist of old times I'd say. After K.L Saigal comes Begum Akhtar in the list of top old times ghazal singers.
